Drunk driving

busted - to get in trouble
Example: Well, he told me that Melissa just got busted again for drunk driving.

pulled her over - to be stopped by the police while driving
Example: And, uh, y’know a cop saw her and y’know, pulled her over and smelled that she had alcohol on her breath.

thank goodness - to be thankful for something
Example: She was, she actually didn’t get hurt. She didn’t hit anybody, thank goodness, and uh…

hit (it) head-on - hit something with the head or front first
Example: She hit into a, um, a telephone pole but thank goodness she didn’t hit it head-on.

wrapping it around - crashed into badly
Example: God, I just had this image of her wrapping it around the telephone pole.

rear-ended - hit something from behind or from the back end
Example: Rear-ended a car.

run-in (with the law): to get in trouble (with the police)
Example: But, uh, yeah, since, since he had had a run-in with the law prior to that he got, uh, thrown in jail for a year.

thrown in jail - to be put in jail
Example: But, uh, yeah, since, since he had had a run-in with the law prior to that he got, uh, thrown in jail for a year.

throw away the key - to make someone go to jail for a long time
Example: Well, I’m surprised they didn’t just throw away the key with Matthew. I mean he was trashed.

get her off - to get her out of trouble (with the police)
Example: And, uh, y’know unlike last time, um, last time she was hoping her lawyer was gonna get her off.

throw the book at - to make someone go to jail for a long time
Example: They’re gonna throw the book at her.

get put away - to get put in jail
Example: She’s definitely, uh, gonna get put away for three to six months.
